About A Chorus Line
A Chorus Line is the story of 17 dancers in desperate need of work who are all trying out to be a part of an upcoming Broadway show. The background stories of several dancers are revealed, and we learn exactly why they need the job. It becomes hard not to root for each individual to get their spot in the show because they are all likeable characters who have pinned all their hopes and dreams on this one shot at being part of an actual Broadway production. There are several songs from A Chorus Line that audience members who have seen the show before always look forward to hearing, such as “I Hope I Get It,” “The Music and the Mirror,” and of course the well-known “One.”
A Chorus Line Awards
Over the years, A Chorus Line has been honored with several different awards. In 1976, which was the year after the initial premiere of the show, A Chorus Line was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, of which it won 9. In addition to Tony’s, the show has also won Obie Awards, Drama Desk Awards, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. In 1984, A Chorus Line was honored with a very special Tony award for being the longest running Broadway musical. The musical also became popular enough to spawn the movie A Chorus Line, which debuted in 1985. The movie was also fairly successful and received a few Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations, although it failed to actually win these awards.
