More about Barnum Bailey Circus
The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus actually started way back in 1907 when the Ringling Bros. circus and the Barnum & Bailey circus merged together. For a long time, the circuses still performed apart from each other even though they were technically one and the same. In 1919, the circuses finally started performing together.
Even though the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus now primarily hold their shows in arenas, this wasn’t always the case. The circus company used their own old-style circus tents up until 1957, when they finally expanded to the point that that was no longer practical.
Spectators of the circus today are treated to all the amazing sights the circus has always been known for – and then some. The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus has trapeze artists, body contortionists, and animal trainers. In addition to these things, people can see a man and a woman being shot out of a cannon at roughly 65 miles per hour, completely unharmed. There are also clowns, peanuts, popcorn, and all the other things that everyone expects at any circus.
This particular circus has been a big deal for almost 100 years, and even longer than 100 years if you count both The Ringling Bros. and the Barnum & Bailey circuses before they merged together in the early 1900s. This circus truly is “the greatest show on earth!”
