Georgia Aquarium

The Georgia Aquarium is actually the largest aquarium in the entire world. There are approximately 100,000 animals living inside the 8.5 million gallons of water inside the aquarium. The aquarium was opened in 2005 thanks to a $250 million dollar donation from Bernie Marcus, who co-founded the popular Home Depot hardware stores.

More about the Georgia Aquarium

Some of the most notable creatures existing inside the aquarium are whale sharks and beluga whales. The aquarium is made up of several different exhibits – each one relating to different types of fish in various habitats. The Georgia Explorer exhibit is well-suited for children because it has a number of touch tanks, allowing kids to safely interact with some tamer types of fish. The Cold Water Quest exhibit is where the beluga whales live as well as many other types of exotic fish that live naturally inside the deeper, colder waters of the ocean.

In addition to the exhibits that are always in place, the Georgia Aquarium frequently has exhibits that are up temporarily. Some examples of popular exhibits that were on display for a short period of time were the Titanic exhibit, which allowed visitors to walk through an area created to look just like what the sunken ship may now look like, and the Planet Shark exhibit, which displayed life-like shark models as well as actual shark fossils and teeth.

The Georgia Aquarium is open every day of the year, and tickets are always available for order. There is a 1,600 space covered parking garage available for the convenience of aquarium visitors. There are also train and bus stops that are within walking distance of the aquarium.
