What up, Georgia? Excited about the John Butler Trio band? Same here! Presently, the John Butler Trio band is composed of John Butler (guitarist and vocalist), Byron Luiters (bass guitar) and Nicky Bomba (drums and percussion). The band originated and formed in Western Australia (Fremantle). The band plays with different genres including alternative rock, bluegrass, blues rock, jam band, roots rock and funk rock.

John Butler Trio band was created in 1998 and led by John Butler. Their first album was released independently in 1998. After that, they released an extended play titled JBT in 2000. In 2001, their album titled ‘Three’ was released. This was their second studio album and it was recorded at Studio Couch in Western Australia. This album was able to receive the Best Independent Release at the Australian ARIA awards. The album went platinum in 2002 selling over 100,000 copies. John Butler Trio was able to release several albums after ‘Three’. This includes ‘Living EP’, ‘Sunrise Over Sea’, ‘Grand National’, and ‘April Uprising’ being the latest (2010).

The band was able to receive a lot of awards and nominations. In 2004, John Butler Trio’s first single from ‘Sunrise Over Sea’ received the Song of the Year award at the APRA Awards. In 2006, two of their songs Somethings Gotta Give and What You Want were nominated for Most Performed Blues & Roots Work at the APRA Awards; Somethings Gotta Give received the award. In 2007, their fourth album ‘Grand National’ won the Best Independent Release award and Best Blues & Roots Album at the ARIA Music Awards. Also, on the same year, the album was nominated as Album of the Year at the same music awards.
